500 Words is an archive of my written work on the web.
In 1945, the inventor Vannevar Bush proposed a hypothetical electromechanical device for interacting with documents. His idea was that we would store all of our books, records, and communications in a mechanized form, in a memex as he called it, “so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility.” He thought of it as a personal filing system to supplement biological memory.
This site is something like that. It is a memex for writing projects.
I post archives of my newsletters with short-form fiction here, as well as links to my podcasts.
When the posts are numbered they are part of a series. To read them in order, just look for #1 in the series and read up. Each numbered post spins an interlocking story, sometimes in the form of fiction.
Subscribe and get 500 Words right in your email. When I post new fiction or podcasts, you’ll receive a newsletter about them.
Podcast episodes can also be found at FutureX Studio.
